Airless Tires For The Next Generation Vehicles

Airless tires have been teased for decades, but in the last few years they’ve inched closer to reality. Now, you can finally get a set. But only on an ATV that’s more like an open-air tank, sans cannon.

The Polaris Sportsman WV850 H.O. is the first vehicle equipped with a non-pneumatic tire system, and it’s based on the military-spec MV850. That means a 1,500-pound towing capacity, a winching setup good for 3,500 pounds, an 11.75 gallon fuel tank, and a single-speed transmission.

But the TerrainArmor tires seal the deal. They can keep running for 1,000 miles after hitting a railroad spike or 350 miles after taking fire from a .50-caliber rifle.

Sales begin next month for $14,995. But quantities are limited, so buy two just in case the zombie apocalypse happens sooner than we think.
